Janice Rae Mackey of Riverhead died on January 18 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 64.
Ms. Mackey was a teacher in the Riverhead School District, teaching for over 30 years at both the elementary and middle school levels, the last eight years at the Phillips Avenue School. She retired in 2010.
Ms. Mackey is survived by two daughters, Erin Spellman and husband Bud of Hampton Bays, and Melissa Ries and husband Brad of Riverhead. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Benjamin, Eden and Eli Spellman, and Alice and Charleigh Ries. She was predeceased by a brother, Paul Miller.
The family received friends at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Tuesday, January 21, where a parish prayer service was conducted by clergy of the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. A funeral Mass was said at the Basilica Parish in Southampton. Cremation followed at Mount Pleasant Crematory in Center Moriches.
