Joaquina Conroy of Shirley died on August 1 at the Westhampton Care Center. She was 96.

Born June 24, 1913, in The Bronx, she received a bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Ursula in Riverdale. She served as a volunteer for Brookhaven Hospital and Peconic Bay Medical Center, and her hobbies included painting and being active in community affairs.

She is survived by a son, Edwin Conroy Jr. of Connecticut, and was predeceased by her husband, Edwin J. Conroy Sr.

Cremation and funeral arrangements were under the direction of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
