John Ross Bunning of Hampton Bays died March 5, 2017, at the Acadia Center (formerly the Riverhead Care Center). He was 80.
Mr. Bunning was a retired New York State Trooper and had been a resident of Hampton Bays since 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carole A. (Opitz) Bunning; two sons, John E. Bunning and wife Colleen of Center Moriches, and Paul E. Bunning and wife Laurie of Blooming Grove; and a daughter, Cynthia A. Bunning of Coram; four grandchildren, Morgan Bunning, Jackson Bunning, Caitlyn Hitt and Arianna Bunning; and a great-grandchild, Noah Polishchuk. He is also survived by a brother, Charles Cort Bunning and wife Carol V. of Stony Brook; and a sister-in-law, Alice Bunning of Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard A. Bunning.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Jerry Olson of the Eastport Bible Church.
Burial with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
