Jonathan Mason, a longtime summer resident of Southampton, died on June 22 at his home in Wellington, Florida. He was 92.
The son of Alexander Taylor Mason and Susanne McKee Lee, he was born February 19, 1916, in New York City. A 1938 graduate of Princeton University, he later served with U.S. Army intelligence during World War II.
After working with Bache and Company on Wall Street, he co-founded the Japan Fund, the first closed-end fund to invest in Japanese stocks, and served as its longtime chairman. He also served on the boards of the Japan Society, Asia Society and International House.
A summer resident of Southampton for more than 40 years, he was a member of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, the Meadow Club and the Bathing Corporation of Southampton.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Natsuki Mason; two sons, Alexander Mason of Maryland and Southampton and Anthony Mason of Rye; and five grandchildren, Taylor, Christopher, Emily, Olivia and Nicholas.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lee Granger, who died November 20, 2007.
