CVS wants to replace the Hampton Bays movie theater with one of their mega drugstores [“Southampton Town Planning Board Takes Early Look At Proposal For CVS In Hampton Bays Movie Theater Space,” 27east.com, May 29].
Hampton Bays has a population of about 13,000. We have three drugstores and one movie theater—that sounds about right. If CVS gets its way, we will have four drugstores and no movie theater. Who thinks this is a good idea?
Our three current stores are Rite Aid, Stop & Shop, and the Liggett Pharmacy. What will happen when CVS takes business from them? Rite Aid and Stop & Shop will be okay, but the independently owned Liggett store will get squeezed.
Perhaps there is no legal way to stop CVS, but if they need any variance or special treatment, it should be denied. Let’s support local businesses and keep our theater.
