Know The Rules

This letter is being written to you from Mecox Beach in Bridgehampton. My husband, Tip, and I just came for the first time since summer set in. It is heavenly. We settled in with books, chairs and umbrella just a couple of yards west of the lifeguards’ flag.

Why use up precious space to write this? Because, just beside us, there must have a little party last night. Whoever was enjoying themselves must not know the rules of the game.

They did not let their fire burn out, covered it with sand, and left pieces of two broken bottles and some cans on top of and under the sand. Not good. I picked up 11 pieces of glass and hope I found all of them.

A clear sign posted at each of our beaches would prevent trips to the ER.
