Marilyn Emily Culver

Former Westhampton resident Marilyn Emily Culver of Cassopolis, Michigan, died on November 26 at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Indiana, following a long illness. She was 79.

Born in Freeport on July 25, 1929, to Ruth (née Quick) and Burton Cassin, she married Herbert R. Culver of Westhampton on September 12, 1948. The couple lived in Westhampton until 1959, when they moved to Indiana, living in Pierceton for 10 years before settling in Middlebury. There she became very active in Girl Scouts on both the local and district level.

A co-owner, alongside her husband, of Culver Duck Farm in Middlebury, she was vice president of sales and marketing for the company. She was an avid gardener and was particularly interested in historic literature, sailing and lighthouses. Still, according to survivors, her family always came first; she most enjoyed the family vacations and travels.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons and their wives, Russell and Kay Culver, Burton and Alene Culver and Wes and Val Culver, all of Indiana, and Herbert Culver III and his wife Karyn of Arizona; two daughters, Julie and her husband Tim Rouch of Michigan and Nancy Nylund of California; a sister, Janice Cassin of Arizona; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Fierro, in 1988, and a grandson, Chad Culver, in 2002.

A memorial service was held on November 29 at her lake house in Cassopolis.
