Marilyn Leahy, a Southampton resident for almost 50 years, died on January 5 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 77.
Born on September 21, 1931, to Margaret and John Meadows in Kew Gardens, she grew up in Baldwin where she attended St. Christopher’s Elementary School and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. Shortly after graduating from Baldwin High School, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ray Leahy, with whom she shared a 58-year marriage.
After moving her family to Southampton in 1960, she became an active Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was also a member of the Columbiettes and a eucharistic minister at Sacred Hearts Church, faithfully visiting the sick at Southampton Nursing Home for more than 25 years. In addition, she was a member of the Southampton Golf Club, where she enjoyed and helped organize ladies events.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Leahy of Riverhead; two daughters, Jeanne Leahy of Riverhead and Maureen Biancucci of Rochester; a son, Raymond J. Leahy of Maine; a granddaughter, Danielle Diglio; four grandsons, Matthew Biancucci, Lutha and Blake Leahy-Miller and David Leahy-Dominski; and three great-grandsons, Milo Leahy-Miller and Jackson and Aidan Diglio.
Visitation was on January 7 at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral mass will be held today, Thursday, January 8, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Southampton, with the Reverend Monsignor Edmond Trench officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
