Maurice R. Farre, a longtime resident of Hampton Bays, died at home on October 18, of a heart attack. He was 98 years old and still living independently.
Mr. Farre was born on Staten Island, married in the Bronx, and raised three children in Floral Park, before retiring to the family’s summer home in Hampton Bays.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Farre worked for American Cystoscope Makers, where he was a tool and die maker, a machinist, a foreman and plant manager. In his last position he managed a research and development lab that made prototypes of delicate medical instruments, such as endoscopes for infants.
Mr. Farre attended the Church of St. Rosalie, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. According to family members, he loved boating and fishing, gardening and sports, particularly baseball, golf and football. He will be remembered for his integrity as well as his caring and generous spirit, they said.
Mr. Farre was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Patricia. He is survived by a sister, Laura; sons, Tom and John; a daughter, Ellen; and grandchildren, Carlin, Douglas and James.
A wake was held on Wednesday, October 23, at the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral Mass was said on Thursday, October 24, at St. Rosalie’s, with interment at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
