Michael J. Maffia Jr. of Hampton Bays died at the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Saturday, May 23. He was 58.
Mr. Maffia worked for the Suffolk County Deeds and Real Property Department in Riverhead.
He was a member of the Hampton Bays Knights of Columbus and the Terrytown Lions Club.
Mr. Maffia also ushered regularly at St. Rosalie’s Chapel in East Quogue and was a former member of the ROTC in Florida, holding the rank of sergeant.
He is survived by his wife, Rita (née Re); two sons, Michael A. Maffia and his wife Lisa Jean, and Matthew John Maffia, all of Hampton Bays; a daughter, Christine Rodgers and her husband Brian of Hampton Bays; two sisters, Maryann Zeolla and Virginia Ferris and her husband John, all of New York; and three grandchildren, Lillyanne, Anthony Joseph, and Tristan Matthew Maffia.
A wake and prayer services by clergy of St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church and members of the Hampton Bays Knights of Columbus were held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on May 27.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, May 28, at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church in Hampton Bays, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated by the family.
