Off Limits

For years, some candidates in our village elections have solicited absentee ballots from patients in a local nursing home. Even if it’s technically legal, soliciting votes from nursing home residents is a disgusting campaign tactic that reflects very badly on the character and judgment of the candidate involved. It just shouldn’t be done, especially by someone seeking a position of public trust in the village.

I hope every candidate in this year’s election will promise not to solicit ballots from nursing home residents. I also hope that the nursing home will take steps to protect its residents from this form of exploitation and abuse.

If a candidate does not publicly announce his or her opposition to soliciting nursing home votes, I hope that voters in the village will cast their votes for someone else.

We have enough scum on Lake Agawam. We don’t need more in Village Hall.
