Patti Ann Kelly of Hampton Bays died at the East End Hospice Kanas Center for Hospice Care on Quiogue on October 25. She was 70.
She was born in Flushing, on September 13, 1955, the youngest daughter of Marilouise and Eugene Kelly.
She is fondly remembered as a dedicated and loving caretaker of her mother. Her adventurous spirit led to many trips, including exciting cruises they took together. She was an avid long-distance swimmer and bicyclist.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Stony Brook University, a Master of Science in zoology from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in food science and nutrition from the University of Rhode Island.
She could do anything she put her mind to, her family said, which resulted in a career starting in marine science at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, launching her own water business, and having success in commercial real estate.
One manager described her as very meticulous and consistent in her approach. She knew the facts and did her research, they said.
Her loyalty and devotion to her clients is unprecedented. This very much describes her and reflects the deep devotion she had to her mother, particularly as her mother aged, her family noted.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother-in-law Ed Weiss. She is survived by her siblings, Edward (Mary Ann) Kelly, Eugene (Veronica) Kelly, James (Brenna) Kelly, Marilynda (Denny) Vianna, Barbara (Billy) Tierney and Christine Weiss; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on November 1 at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays.
The family asks for those who were close to her to smile or say a prayer whenever they remember her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of one’s choosing or to East End Hospice (eeh.org).
