Philip “Fred” LaVigna of Westhampton Beach died at the Westhampton Care Center on Monday, October 6. He was 84.
Mr. LaVigna was born on January 25, 1924, in The Bronx. He was a graduate of John Carroll University, and served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot during World War II.
After his military service, he joined his family’s business and later became the president of LaVigna Inc., a cashmere coat and suit company based in New York City.
He and his family first summered in Westhampton Beach before permanently moving to the town in the early 1970s. Mr. LaVigna spent his retirement years in Florida, where he remained active pursuing his hobbies.
He is survived by a son, Philip of Westhampton Beach; a daughter, Laura Jayne of Southampton; a sister, Violette Breeckner; a brother, Don LaVigna; and three grandchildren, Christina Lee LaVigna, and Ashley and Justin Jayne.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ellen Rubel LaVigna.
A wake will be held today, Thursday, October 9, at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue at 3 p.m.
Interment will be private.
