Former Southampton resident Raymond Brennan of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, died on March 19 at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Massachusetts, after a long illness. He was 89.?Born August 23, 1918, in New York, Mr. Brennan was the son of Elizabeth (née Prunty) and John Brennan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in the European theatre during World War II, landing in Normandy as part of the D-Day forces, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, in the liberation of Paris, and with General George Patton in his sweep through Germany. He was discharged in September of 1945.?Mr. Brennan worked for the National Broadcasting Company as a supervising film editor for more than 35 years, overseeing the evolution of television programming from its earliest days to the medium it is today. His editing department received several Emmy awards and other recognition for excellence.?A devoted father, Mr. Brennan enjoyed time with his daughters, Suzanne and Patricia Brennan. After retiring in 1982, he and his wife, Joan Brennan, moved permanently to their summer home in Southampton Cove, where they enjoyed boating, fishing, clamming and the beach. They also enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and Canada.?Mr. Brennan was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Southampton Golf Club. He also was a member of the North Sea Early Settlers" Lions Club and Elks Lodge 1574 in Southampton.?He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Vincent, Eugene and James, all of New York City, and a sister, Marguerite (Peggy) Finneran Wise of Illinois.?In addition to his wife of 53 years, Joan, Mr. Brennan is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Suzanne and Christopher Connors of Colorado and Patricia and Joseph Demeo of Massachusetts; two grandsons, Samuel Raymond Demeo and Remsen Joseph Demeo; a granddaughter, Summer Elizabeth Demeo; and many nieces and nephews, including the children of his late sister: Michael Finneran of Connecticut, Sister Mary Kay Finneran of New York City, Elizabeth Kennedy of Indiana and Meg Finneran of Illinois.?Visitation was held on March 21 at James C. Greely Funeral Home in Manchester-by-the-Sea. A funeral mass was held on March 22 at Sacred Heart Church, also in Manchester-by-the-Sea, followed by interment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
