Richard Anthony Miller died December 1, 2022 in Port Washington, New York. He was 77 years of age. Dick was the eldest of three children of Anthony George Miller and Mary Foley Miller of Wantagh, New York. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola in 1962 and continued his education at the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a BA in History in 1966. He then attended Fordham Law School from 1966-1969. He worked in the New York City District Attorney’s office from 1969 to 1972. He then worked for Suffolk County as a prosecutor of nursing home offenders until 1977. He married Martha Claiborne Gregory in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1978, started a family in Remsenburg, New York, and went into private practice on Long Island, New York until his retirement in 2018.
Dick moved from Manhattan to the eastern end of Long Island because of his love of the ocean, wildlife and history of the area. He gave generously of his time volunteering for the Marty Lyons Foundation for many years and served on the Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary School Board for 10 years. He loved coaching both of his children’s baseball teams as they were growing up. Dick was also an avid golfer and fisherman.
Dick was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his children, Kossen Gregory Miller (Megan) of Corte Madera, CA, his daughter Claiborne Miller McMahon (Evan) of Encinitas,CA, his grandson, Sullivan, and his ex-wife Muffin of Westhampton Beach, NY as well as his brother, Robert Miller (Diane) of Quogue, NY, and his sister Maureen Marren of New York, NY. Arrangements: There will be a Memorial Service at Werner Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach, New York on Wednesday December 21, 2022 from 3:00-5:30pm. All who knew and loved him are welcome.
