Lifelong Southampton resident Rita C. Raynor died on November 28 at Southampton Hospital. She was 91.
Born in Southampton on September 27, 1917, to Mary McGlynn and Walter G. Raynor, she was a U.S. Navy WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from January 1943 to August 1945, working as a secretary in the district intelligence office in Miami, Florida.
From 1962 until her retirement she worked and was part owner of Landons Stationery and Gift Shop. In addition she worked as a secretary for the law offices of William B. Platt for many years.
Survivors said this week that she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. A brother, 10 sisters, a niece and a nephew all predeceased her.
The family received visitors on December 1 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service was held on December 2 at Sacred Hearts Church in Southampton, with interment with military honors following in the church cemetery.
