Robert Matthew David of Hampton Bays died on September 6 at Southampton Hospital. He was 83.
A World War II veteran, Mr. David served with the 9th Fighter Squadron, the 49th Fighter Group and Fifth Army Air Force. He was a longtime employee of the Quogue Sinclair Oil Company, from which he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine David of Hampton Bays; three daughters, Diane David of Riverhead, Denise David of Riverhead, and Nancy Stanton and her husband Douglas of Hampton Bays; two sons, Paul David and his wife Sheri of Hampton Bays, and Robert J. David and his wife Bronwyn of Maryland.
He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Redmond of Garden City and Susan Pattelo of Mineola; three brothers, Donald David of Brookhaven, Daniel David of Carmel, and William David of California; two granddaughters, Stephine Stanton and MacKenzie David; four grandsons, Wayne Matthew Stanton, Dunavan David, Luke David and Robert Emmet David; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard David.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., both days, at the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society services will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., with Veterans of Foreign Wars services following at 8 p.m. American Legion services will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays. Interment will follow at Good Ground Cemetery, also in Hampton Bays.
