Rosalinda Studer Butler of Shelter Island died on April 9, in Newport, Vermont. She was 66.
Born on July 6, 1941, in Flushing, she graduated from the Mary Louis Academy in 1959.
She continued her education and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland; earned a diploma as an interpreter in Spanish, Italian, and English from the Scuola D’Interpreti in Rome, Italy, and a master’s in education from the University of Montana. She taught in the Syosset School District until her retirement.
In 1969, she married Richard Butler, and along with his son, Christopher, they made their home on Shelter Island where she was a devout member of Our Lady of the Isle Church and a strong supporter of St. Gabriel’s Retreat Center.
Ms. Butler play??ed basketball in high school and in ?Italy and later enjoyed skiing, boating, tennis, and golf. During her life, ?she traveled extensively, including trips to South America and Europe and ?many winters in Florida. The family ?recalled this week that she found peace and joy in music, especially through her participation in the Sweet ?Adelines in both Sarasota, Florida, and Southampton. Survivors noted that ?her family and many friends enriched her life.
She is survived by her stepson, retired Air Force Major Christopher Butler and his wife Julie of Oregon; a brother, Bruno Studer and his wife Linda of ?Vermont; a granddaughter, Erin Butler; two grandsons, Shane and Garrett Butler; two nephews, Dominic and Paul Studer; two nieces, Christina Philippi and Loretta Studer; two great-nephews; and five great-nieces. In addition, ?she is survived by a special friend, ?Robert Sinko, and many other friends who shared their lives with her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Butler, and her parents, Louis and Marguarita Marabini Studer.
The family will receive visitors on ?Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Shelter Island Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 26, at ?9 a.m. at Our Lady of the Isle Church; interment will follow at the church ?cemetery.
