A grant from the Partners in Education, Arts and Community Empowerment Program and the Patchogue Arts Council has offered Hampton Bays High School students a way to creatively express themselves through poetry and art with the assistance of author Adriana Devers. Through the grant, obtained by teacher Daniela Vargas, English as a new language students explored poetry and wrote poems about their culture, identity and country. Then they decorated and painted masks that reflected what they wrote about. The students’ work will be displayed at their school for a family and friends showcase. Students in Dr. Nick Epley’s Southampton Elementary School Rotary Club recently organized a fundraiser for the Flying Point Foundation for Autism, in which they sold mattresses, with help from a company that organizes them, and manned a bake sale. The show promoted healthy lifestyle choices, including the importance of wearing helmets and being kind to others, while also entertaining students with impressive tricks and stunts, including a BMX rider making a jump over Principal Jeremy Garritano. To mark Cancer Survivorship Month, business education students at Southampton High School partnered with the Phillips Family Cancer Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital to create pinwheels that feature the names of survivors. Chief Master Sergeant Brian Mosher of the 106 th Rescue Wing, recently spoke to Westhampton Beach High School History of Long Island students in Korey Williams’ class. The presentation focused on the rescue Xapabilities of the Rescue Wing in both peacetime and armed conflict, as well as the Role of the 106th Rescue Wing on Long Island.
