Lifelong Sag Harbor resident Stanley P. Benfield died on February 2 at Southampton Hospital. He was 85.
Born July 15, 1924, to Bruno Benfield and Bertha (née Slivoski) Benfield, he attended Pierson High School and worked at the Bulova Watch Factory in Sag Harbor. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the assault on Okinawa.
He is survived by his wife, Alice “Boots” Booth; two sons, Paul Benfield and James Benfield, both of Sag Harbor; a daughter, Christine Benfield of North Carolina; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all of his siblings.
A prayer service will be held on Friday, February 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, also in Sag Harbor.
