Congressman Nick LaLota blames Democrats for shutting down the government, but he neglects to say that Republican legislation will take health care away from millions of U.S. citizens [“Striking Hypocrisy,” Letters, October 2]. Health insurance rates will be raised exponentially, making it unaffordable for millions.
In 2011, regarding a government shutdown, Donald Trump said, “I hear the Democrats are going to be blamed and the Republicans are going to be blamed. I actually think the president would be blamed. … I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States. He’s the one that has to get people together.”
In 2013, Trump said, “Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. The president’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.”
Right now, instead of being in Washington, D.C., working out a solution, LaLota has been off, but has he held any town halls to hear his constituents’ concerns?
It has also been suggested, too, that the House of Representatives was dismissed to prevent the swearing-in of Congressperson Adelita Grijalva of Arizona in order to prevent a vote that would release the Epstein files. The release of the files is a bipartisan effort by Congresspersons Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna, which the majority of Americans favor.
Will LaLota now vote in favor of releasing the Epstein files, in support of the Epstein victims? If not, why not?
