Southampton summer resident Theresa Kirshy of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, died on November 28 in Southampton surrounded by family after a four-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 76.

Born August 16, 1934, in Brooklyn to Yesmine and Nesre Zehil, she was raised on Henry Street in Brooklyn where she attended the Girls Commercial High School of Design, which is now known as Prospect Heights High School. A designer and seamstress, she worked for Learner & Co. and Henri Bendel in Manhattan. She was a fashion and interior design enthusiast who enjoyed sewing, designing and shopping, as well as reading and cooking.

Ms. Kirshy donated a lot of her time to her church and community. She was a member of the Ladies Association at St. Mary’s Church in Brooklyn and was very active in parent-teacher organizations and local schools where she lived.

Survivors said they will remember her as a beautiful person, a loving wife, caring mother and compassionate friend to all. Family also said that she will be deeply missed, but her memory will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her mother, Yesmine Zehil, she is survived by her husband, Anthony Kirshy of Brooklyn; a daughter, Mary Beth Rogers of Briarcliff Manor, New York; two sons, Dr. David Kirshy of Southampton and Anthony Kirshy of New Dorp, New York; two brothers, Charlie Zehil of Setauket and Louie Zehil of Florida; three granddaughters, Sarah and Caitlyn Kirshy and Lauren Rogers; and four grandsons, David, Anthony and Nicholas Kirshy, and Mark Rogers. She was predeceased by her father, Nesre Zehil.

The family received visitors on December 1 at Ralph Aievoli & Son Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 2, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 81st Street and Ridge Boulevard, Brooklyn, with Father Michael Elias officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Southampton Hospital Foundation, 240 Meeting House Lane, Southampton, NY 11968-5090 would be appreciated by the family.
