Thomas Patrick Boyle, director of library computer operations, musician, songwriter, and computer consultant as well as a talented nature photographer died on February 10, at his home in Springs, after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. He was 64.

Mr. Boyle was born on December 29, 1950, in Bay Shore, to James Francis Boyle and Helen Lee Boyle, both of whom predeceased him. He was also predeceased by a brother Daniel, who died in 1965 at the age of 12, also from cystic fibrosis.

After attending Dowling College as an English major, Mr. Boyle traveled extensively throughout the country until Montauk captured his heart in 1972. He later moved to Southampton, where he worked at the Rogers Memorial Library for 30 years and was married to Bonnie P. Boyle. He was instrumental in the growth of the library from its original site on Jobs Lane to its present site on Coopers Farm Road.

Mr. Boyle was a professional guitarist and vocalist with local bands such as Me and The Boys, The Frank Brothers Band, TomKat Duo and played with the well-known Hot Wax band during the 1980s and 1990s.

Upon his retirement, he discovered his eye for photography. He was a nature photographer, displaying and selling his work at local shows. His photographs captured the beauty of nature and the essence of the East End.

Survivors said he was an artist in every sense, known for his ability to share his love with others through his lens and the strings of his favorite guitars. He enjoyed his many days of photography as he walked the trails and beaches of the East End with his loving companion, his dog Molly.

He is survived by two brothers, Robert of Florida and James Michael of Maine; and two sisters, Patricia Boyle of Florida and Nancy McLaughlin of Wading River. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Wonda Miller of Center Moriches and Naomi Miller of Southampton; and a grandson, Atticus.

A memorial service is being planned for the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton, NY 11978.

Additionally, Hochul’s plan to create up to 15,000 affordable housing units on state-owned land across the state — including at the Southampton campus — was included in the budget.
