Vera C. Merlo of Quogue died on Saturday, January 17, at the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 98.
Ms. Merlo was born in Brooklyn on January 16, 1911, to Anna and Gasper Colletti.
Before moving to the East End, she lived for more than 50 years in Flushing, Queens. She was an active member of the Town of Southampton Senior Center, the Catholic Daughters of America-Court St. Rosalie, and the Westhampton Women’s Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Myra and Kathryn Merlo of Quogue; a son, Michael and his wife Geraldine of Garden City and Westhampton; a sister, Marie Molinari of New Jersey; a granddaughter, Allison Merlo; and two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Merlo, all of Garden City and Westhampton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael; and a son, Myron.
A wake was held at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on January 19. A funeral service was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue on January 20; interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Queens.
