William Daniel Horan of Hampton Bays died on Wednesday, July 16, at Southampton Hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Horan was the retired broker and owner of W.D. Horan Inc., a marine insurance company located in Floral Park. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2315 of Floral Park, a life member of the American Legion Post 2345 of Floral Park, and a past commander of the Marine Industries Post Legion in New York City.
He is survived by four sons, William D. Horan Jr. and his wife Maryclaire of Floral Park, Timothy Horan and his wife Vanessa of North Carolina, Brian Horan and his wife Gina of Pennsylvania, and Kevin J. Horan of East Quogue; a daughter, Peggy Miranda of Connecticut; a brother, John Horan and his wife Madeline of New Jersey; and 11 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (nee McSweeney) Horan.
Members of the Hand Aldrich American Legion Post 924 of Hampton Bays conducted military services at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on July 20, followed by a parish prayer service by clergy of St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church of Hampton Bays. A funeral mass was held at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church on July 21, with interment following at Calverton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 19 West 56th Street, New York, NY 10019 would be appreciated by the family.
