William Horn Sr.

William Horn Sr. of North Haven died at home on May 4, 2018. He was 87. Born and raised in Sag Harbor, he married Janet Nanni of Sag Harbor in 1952. The son of an electrician, he worked for his father after high school, learning the skills of the trade that would serve him the rest of his life. At 20 he enlisted in the Air Force, during the Korean War, spending his military service stationed in Germany where he was a member of the Air Force Military Police.

After his time in the service, Mr. Horn and his wife returned to Sag Harbor where he resumed his work as an electrician with his father. Later he worked for the Bulova Watchcase Factory, where both he and his wife worked until the factory closed. They settled in North Haven where Mr Horn built a home for his family, which by then included three children. Through the years, their house became the center of life for their family and friends as the couple hosted many memorable parties for various occasions and later, as grandchildren arrived, the house became the gathering spot for the entire family at every holiday and spur of the moment get together.

Mr. Horn was known for his ingenuity, hard work, and natural mechanical talent. There was never something broken that he could not fix, or even improve upon in the process of fixing. After his time at Bulova, he went on to be the resident electrician at Southampton Hospital where the doctors and staff would rely on him to fix the complex medical equipment that would elude the capabilities of other licensed technicians. He became a beloved fixture at the hospital, both for his ingenuity and wily sense of humor.

Throughout his life in Sag Harbor, Mr. Horn took pleasure in his prized garden, clamming at Haven’s Beach, and passing on stories of Sag Harbor glories to his friends and family.

Mr. Horn was predeceased by his wife, Jan. He is survived by his sons, Bill and partner Liz, Steve and wife Terry; and his daughter, Lori Stachecki and husband Walter; grandchildren, Tyler, Lea, Steven, Jonathan and David Horn; Brina and Devan Stachecki; and a great-grandchild, Nicholas.
