William H. Schwoob from Anaheim, California and Lynn Thomas Griggs from Chappaqua, New York met on a blind date in 1947 at the West Point Military Academy in New York. They fell in love there and were married in the West Point Chapel on December 30, 1950. After Bill’s graduation from West Point, Lynn left Wellesley College to spend the next 23 years in the Air Force with Bill. Bill served as a pilot while Lynn raised their four children and sold real estate.
Bill served as an instructor at West Point, Training Officer in Europe and a Protocol Officer. He flew propaganda missions in Korea and planned the Air Force withdrawal in Vietnam. During their time in the service they moved 21 times while stationed in the U.S., England, Germany and Panama. After retiring from the Air Force, they moved back to Sagaponack, NY, where they played golf, and enjoyed the beach. Bill taught mathematics at Pierson High School in Sag Harbor while Lynn sold real estate with Alan Schneider Real Estate in Bridgehampton, NY. Weary of the Long Island winters they then moved to Coral Gables, FL, Dunnellon FL, Melbourne, FL, Newland, NC and Macon GA. They were happily married for sixty-seven years.
They are survived by their four children, William H “Ward” Schwoob Jr., Janice L. Meyer, Kevin T. Schwoob and Jeffrey S. Schwoob. They have seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Retired LT.Col. William H. Schwoob passed peacefully in Macon on February 18th, 2017, he was joined by his life long partner and best friend Lynn two years later, on November 9th, 2019. After 67 years of marriage Bill thought this simple rhyme summed up his feelings for Lynn the best:
“This I will remember when the rest of my life is through: the finest thing I’ve ever done is simply loving you.”
