Alex Feleppa, the new horticulturist at the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, will lead a winter garden walk on the grounds there on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This could be a rare opportunity to see LongHouse in a different way—with a close look at its structure, the shapes of many deciduous specimens and the variety of mature evergreens as well as the bark of many plantings.
“Who knows? We may even find some things in flower as we walk,” says a press release from LongHouse. “We’ll observe the witch hazel collection and admire the herbaceous plants like Helleborus—winter rose, as they are commonly known. So don your woollies and sport a scarf!”
Mr. Feleppa, who is an Amagansett native, joined LongHouse in the fall. The former director of horticulture for the Horticultural Society of New York and senior zone gardener/volunteer coordinator at the Conservatory Garden in Central Park, he is a graduate of the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, where he received the Arlow B. Stout Award for Academic Excellence and the Developing Horticultural Skills Achievement Award.
