The Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons is hosting two events in Bridgehampton this month and both are open to the public.

Garden and landscape designer and author Julie Moir Messervy will present “The Designer’s Way: Creating Gardens (and Lives) of Beauty and Meaning” on Sunday, January 12, at 2 p.m. in the Bridgehampton Community House auditorium.

Ms. Messervy will share the principles and processes she lives by for visioning, designing and building personal and private landscapes, according to HAH. Using her firm’s projects as case studies, she interweaves personal stories with design theory and perspectives, as well as befores and afters and tips that apply to creating a beautiful garden and living a joyful life.

Ms. Messervy studied landscape design with eminent Japanese garden master Kinsaku Nakane in Kyoto, first as a Henry Luce Scholar, and then as a Japan Foundation Fellow. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College and a Master of Architecture and Master in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her most recent book is “New Landscaping Ideas That Work” (The Taunton Press, January 2018).

Admission to the lecture is $10, or free for HAH members.

Then on Saturday, January 18, from noon to 1 p.m. the HAH Garden Book Review Group will meet in the HAH John LoGerfo Library inside the Bridgehampton Community House through the School Street entrance.

There is no need to have read the books, but this meeting the topics of discussion will be “Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants” by Douglas W. Tallamy, “The Scentual Garden: Exploring the World of Botanical Fragrance” by Ken Druse, and “Trees in Art” by Charles Watkins.

The discussion is free to attend.
