Ali Bianchi is an interdisciplinary theatre and performance artist based in New York City. On Saturday, January 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., join him at the Watermill Center for an afternoon of theater workshops, sharing how professional artists create new and exciting work.

Bianchi, a Watermill Center alum, works in a number of genres, including physical and devised theatre, traditional theatrical productions, and durational performance. Currently, he is producing and co-creating Lalabala Project, a work of devised theatre for the 3rd Kathmandu Lalabala International Children’s Theatre Festival in Nepal.

You don’t need a written play or script to make theatre. All you need is a body, voice, and imagination to begin creating stories, characters, and theatrical worlds. In this theater-making workshop, we will use simple prompts and exercises to begin creating together, immediately, collaboratively, and imaginatively.

His past collaborations include performances and residencies with Double Edge Theatre, The Watermill Center's International Summer Program under the direction of Robert Wilson, and the creation of site-adaptive physical theatre with FullStop Collective.

The program is for ages 8 and up. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably and be ready to move. Space is limited. Reservations required at watermillcenter.org. Tickets are $5 for adults, $10 for kids at watermillcenter.org.

Also, following Ali Bianchi’s workshop, the Watermill Center hosts a 2020 kickoff party from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 18. Friends and supporters of the center are invited to celebrate the new decade. Bring the family and a friend who has never been to the center before but has always been curious. Enjoy light refreshments and activities for children.

The Watermill Center is at 39 Watermill Towd Road, Water Mill. Visit watermillcenter.org for details.
