I recently read the news I’ve been waiting over 50 years for in The Southampton Press — concerning the potential aquatic center [“STAR Floats Idea For Southampton Village Space For Public Pool To Village Board,” 27east.com, February 18]!
I was the captain of my swim team at Columbia University and an ocean lifeguard at Jones Beach during my high school and college years. I swim in my pool at home for, sadly, what amounts to a very short season in May through September.
An aquatic center would enable me to continue, at the age of 94 years old, to keep in shape over the long winter months, so I am ready for the ocean again come summer.
