I am writing to agree with Sharon Bakes, whose letter [“The Worst Place”] printed in the November 26 edition condemns the proposal of a cell tower in the Noyac area.
A cell tower was quietly (secretly?) erected in Bridgehampton off Butter Lane, near the railroad station, not long ago. It is an eyesore for everyone who lives near our village and beyond. It stands alone like a giant industrial smokestack and is double the height of any trees in the area.
Only time will tell how harmful those cellular emissions will be to the local residents, who seem to have been omitted from any approval process. Despite all the ways we can communicate, I did not receive one notification that this cell tower was going up.
The residents of Noyac, however, have an opportunity to stop this next one. The need to improve so-called “dead zones” in our area sounds like a false concern promoted by cellphone companies and those who profit from these towers. Do we really need more?
I hope the residents of Noyac fight back with gusto to protect what’s left of that natural area along Noyac Road.
