A Bridgehampton estate on Quimby Lane recently sold for $11 million, and the sellers were members of the street’s namesake family.

The residence at 111 Quimby Lane was built in 2009, but the Quimby family goes way back in Bridgehampton. Edward Everett Quimby, a lightning rod dealer and patent lawyer, purchased 32 acres there in 1893.

“It was a far smaller world in 1880 when Penny McCall’s great-grandfather Edward Everett Quimby took the Long Island Rail Road to the end of the line, got off in Bridgehampton and liked what he saw,” wrote Mary Cummings in a 1996 article for The Southampton Press. “So smitten was he that he decided to stay, taking lodgings at first on Ocean Road, then buying farmland near the sea on Sagg Pond and building a summer home for his family. Eventually, the Quimby family compound expanded to include some half-dozen houses along Quimby Lane, where Quimby descendants (including Penny McCall) remain a strong presence today.”

The recently sold Balinese-style estate that was designed by Peter Cook and built by Glen Web. It features a heated gunite pool, a pool house cabana, and a two-car garage on 3.4 acres designed by landscape architect by Ed Hollander. The hedged landscape includes mature specimen trees, a meadow and an expansive lawn.

The flared hip roof with decorative crestings connote a traditional longhouse, according to the listing, which states, “Soaring cathedral ceilings clad in rich, cherry wood and walls of Venetian plaster and glass make for open, voluminous interior spaces.”

The living room has a central fireplace and is adjacent to a raised formal dining room and eat-in kitchen with counter seating, shaker cabinets, a butcher block island and stainless-steel appliances. A wet bar leads to the rounded sitting room with motorized shades plus French doors that lead to the rear grounds. A screened porch has a sitting and dining area.

A three-bedroom wing ends with a master suite with walk-in closets, a gas fireplace, window seating and a bath with a soaker tub and shower. One guest suite opens to the screened porch and the other ground-level guest suite is decorated by trompe l’oeil accent molding.

The second level features a guest bedroom suite with custom, patterned doors, and a marble bathroom, and the partially finished lower level has recreation space.

The residence’s amenities include radiant heated floors, a central vacuum system, and home automation.

The pool house is adorned with roses and flowering vines and offers a wet bar equipped with a refrigerator and a dishwasher, and a changing room with full bathroom and soaker tub.

According to The Real Estate Report Inc., the seller was George P. Mills and the new owner is Three Sticks Q LLC. The deal closed on September 29.

The estate had been asking $14 million. Dana Trotter of Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
