Sagaponack’s 11962 is the third most expensive ZIP code in the United States, dropping one spot after three years holding second place, according to Property Shark’s annual rankings.

Sagaponack has a median home sales price of $5 million in 2021, Property Shark’s analysis found, a 29 percent increase over 2020, but not enough of a rise to retain runner-up status. Jumping ahead of Sagaponack’s ZIP was 02199 in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, at $5.5 million. Atherton, California’s 94027, at $7.48 million, has now held the No. 1 spot for five consecutive years.

Despite dropping in the national ranking, 11962 is still the most expensive ZIP code in New York State, and the South Fork claimed six of the 10 top ZIP codes.

Water Mill’s 11976 was 13th in the United States and second in New York at $3.74 million, a 51 percent year-over-year increase. Bridgehampton’s 11932 was 31st nationally and fifth in the state at $2.96 million. Wainscott’s 11975 was 34th nationally and sixth in the state at $2.75 million. Amagansett’s 11930 was 37th nationally and eighth in the state at $2.65 million. Quogue’s 11959 was 38th nationally and ninth in the state at $2.59 million.

The other four ZIP codes in the state’s top 10 — 10013, 10007, 10282 and 10001 — were all in Manhattan.

Sagaponack has topped the national ranking before. It ousted Atherton in 2015 and 2016.

Among the notable transactions in Sagaponack this year are 1145 Sagaponack Main Street for $19.8 million, 565 Daniels Lane for $10.75 million, 515 Parsonage Lane for $10.65 million, 108 Town Line Road for $7.73 million and 33 Herb Court for $7.09 million.
