Former Islip Town Attorney J.R. DiCioccio has joined Greenberg Traurig LLP as a shareholder of the global law firm’s Bridgehampton office, expanding the firm’s growing land use practice on Long Island.

DiCioccio worked for Islip for 12 years, the last six as town attorney. He served as counsel to the Islip Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Industrial Development Agency and was involved in all facets of the town’s land use process and responsible for defending the town in federal and state litigation and handling all real estate transactions involving town property.

DiCioccio also maintained a private practice representing clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions and leasing, land use applications before municipal boards outside the Town of Islip, and all related litigation.

“The prospect of growing my practice locally at Greenberg Traurig, a firm known for its stellar reputation in land use, collaborating with its distinguished real estate professionals, and having access to premier global resources is exciting,” DiCioccio said. “I look forward to working alongside a highly regarded group of lawyers on Long Island and throughout the region and building upon the firm’s strength in this area.”

Brian C. Doyle and John P. McEntee, co-managing shareholders of Greenberg Traurig’s Long Island offices, said in a joint statement: “Working as a Town Attorney on Long Island for New York’s third largest township has provided J.R. with an intimate understanding of the intricacies of local laws and processes needed in the Land Use Practice and his regional reputation and experience is a great fit with our firm. Every municipality is different and understanding the nuances of land use and development is a crucial element to representing clients in this area.”
