Bay Street Theater has announced that Terrence McNally’s Tony Award-winning comedy with music “Master Class” will run June 25 to July 20, and will be directed by Broadway director Lisa Peterson. Bay Street also announced the world premiere bonus show Julia Motyka’s one-woman show “What I Know, Now,” running July 15 to 20, will round out its mainstage season.

“Master Class” is a virtuoso exploration of art, ego, and the pursuit of perfection. In the waning years of her life and with her career far behind her, opera diva Maria Callas retreats into memories of acclaim and adversity while contending with her students during a funny and brutal master class in singing.

“Terrence McNally was a dear friend to Bay Street, and we are proud to have produced his work multiple times. We’re so excited to finally bring his trenchant comedy with music, ‘Master Class,’ to Sag Harbor,” said Scott Schwartz, the theater’s artistic director. “The brilliant director Lisa Peterson joins us to create a thrilling new production of his tale of Maria Callas and a group of students who are in for the ride of their lives.

“We’re also delighted to welcome Julia Motyka back with her incisive new play about faith, family, and the things in life that we can’t know,” he added. “Summer of 2024 will be an epic season of great theater at Bay Street.”

Subscriptions for the 2024 Season, which also includes “The Subject Was Roses,” (May 28 to June 16) with book by Frank D. Gilroy starring John Slattery, Talia Balsam and Harry Slattery, and “Young Frankenstein,” the Mel Brooks musical,( running August 1 to 25) are now on sale at baystreet.org or 631-725-9500.
