Fifth Anniversary Celebration at the Parrish Art Museum
November 10-12
Friday, November 10, 6 p.m. — The Impact of Architecture: A discussion on the design and construction of the Herzog & de Meuron building with Cathleen McGuigan, Architectural Record editor-in-chief, and Parrish director Terrie Sultan.
Saturday, November 11, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Members Reception and Artist Gallery Talks: Viewing of “Five and Forward” and talks by artists Sydney Albertini, Suzanne Anker, Max Blagg, Michael Combs, Eric Dever, Bill Komoski, Bastienne Schmidt, Ned Smyth and others. Saturday, November 11, 5 to 8 p.m. — 5th Anniversary Cocktail Party: Viewing of “Five and Forward,” and a time to mingle with artists, including Rashid Johnson, the first artist invited by the Parrish to curate a gallery with his own selections from the permanent collection. Begins in the Lichtenstein Theater with the Quintet of the Americas performing “Watercolors,” a composition by Sag Harbor native Nell Shaw Cohen. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live music by a harpist in the galleries follows. $200, or $150 for Parrish members.
Sunday, November 12, noon to 4 p.m. — Free Community Day: The East End community is invited to join the celebration. Free admission, art activities and several hands-on workshops led by local artists and craftspeople all designed around the theme of building.
Gallery activities include haiku writing, inspired by works on view; single-gallery docent discussions with a focus on artists James Brooks, Alan Shields, and William Merritt Chase; bilingual tours; and a bilingual art-based Scavenger Hunt.
The Bridgehampton High School Marimba Band and the “Saw Lady,” Natalia Paruz, will play live music in the Parrish lobby.
There will also be book signings and light refreshments are also part of this celebratory event for adults, children, and families.
