Southampton Arts Center Welcomes New Director Of Programs

author on May 3, 2016

The Southampton Arts Center will welcome Amy Kirwin as its new director of programs May 12.

With a background in performing arts, and having worked at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill for the past six years, Ms. Kirwin brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience.

“I have made so many connections on the East End since moving here in 2010—and have also maintained my contacts in New York and around the world from my previous career in theater—that I felt my background would provide the perfect balance needed for this particular job,” Ms. Kirwin said in an email.

She said Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley encouraged her to apply for the position because of her experience. In fact, part of Ms. Kirwin’s responsibilities at the Parrish Art Museum as the head of museum experience is programming, and she hopes to bring those skills to the Southampton Arts Center through a variety of ways.

“In addition to continuing the programs that everyone has come to know and love, I look forward to adding new things such as Sunday morning yoga and meditation, exhibition-related art workshops, afternoon jazz on the steps and much more,” Ms. Kirwin said. “There are so many people and organizations to partner with, and I love to collaborate, so the possibilities are endless.”

Ms. Kirwin said her departure from the Parrish Art Museum is “bittersweet” but she does not want to miss out on this opportunity.

“We were looking for someone who had a background in a variety of art forms, who was high energy, understands the East End and has connections with various institutions,” Mr. Epley said. “I think we've found that person and I’m very confident she’ll do a fantastic job for us.”
