The Depot Art Gallery in Montauk will present a three-woman show featuring the works of Donna Corvi, Mary Daunt and Sally Richardson. The show runs Thursday, July 4 to Monday, July 15 and opens with a reception on Saturday, July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Donna Corvi’s acrylic paintings are all about trees — especially leafless trees. In her new series of “veiled” paintings, she explores the use of a layer of mist-like color with cut-out shapes to lure the viewer into the scene, to peek through and enter the other side of the landscape. Atmospheric and dreamlike, they are her own personal visions of her garden surroundings and beyond.

Through her art, Mary Daunt’s artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her connection to the East End, where she has resided for four decades. Pastels serve as Daunt’s chosen medium, allowing her to tread the delicate boundary between abstraction and realism. She exaggerates colors and simplifies form, infusing her pieces with a vibrant energy. Each stroke is deliberate, as she builds layer upon layer, gradually filling the surface.

Sally Richardson has been carving wood and stone sculptures for 30 years. In her sculpture practice she explores her deep-rooted connection to maritime environments carving human and plant-like forms that evoke the fluidity of the sea. She carves in wood and stone using only hand tools (mallets, chisels and rasps) and the materials she uses are limestone, Carrara marble, and wood. She approaches each piece of wood and block of stone respectful of its character and uniqueness, and during the subtractive carving process imagines an inner life emerging from within. For the past 20 years she has lived and worked in Montauk, drawn to a familiar coastal history and a landscape that continues to inspire.

The Depot Art Gallery is at 285 Edgemere Street in Montauk. Visit montaukartistsassociation.org for details.
