Like many in our community, we were shocked and saddened to hear that Canio’s Books will lose its lease on its current location [“Canio’s Books, Long a Sag Harbor Cultural Icon, Faces Uncertain Future as Lease Is Not Renewed,” 27east.com, March 20]. There is scarcely another business or institution that embodies the qualities and unique character of Sag Harbor Village quite like Canio’s.
We urge local administrative and community leaders to work diligently in finding an affordable home for our beloved bookstore. Without Canio’s, not only will our village be deprived of one of its defining institutions, but our personal lives also will be diminished.
