Dorothy H. Allen
Dorothy “Dot” H. Allen of East Islip, formerly of Sag Harbor, died at her home, with two of her daughters at her side, after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, January 21. She was 84.
Born Dorothy Helene Craddock in Brooklyn on April 21, 1927, to Marion and Charles Craddock, she lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, until the family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. While still in grade school her family moved back to Brooklyn, this time to Bedford Stuyvesant where she met and eventually married James T. Allen on February 26, 1949.
The Allens moved to Sag Harbor in the mid 1950s where they raised their family. Ms. Allen was a devoted Roman Catholic and her religion was a very important part of her life. She loved to travel and had done so extensively in her later years. She also liked to go for walks and be taken for long drives. She loved music, and her broad range of favorites included artists from Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Metallica.
Ms. Allen is survived by her children, Chickie Montaldo of North Carolina, Kathleen Allen of Montana, Marion Allen and Ron Abler of California, James Allen of Oregon, Timothy and Melody Allen of North Carolina, and Thomas Allen of Potsdam; grandchildren, Joseph Montaldo, Michael Montaldo, Rebecca Kinman, Amy Kinman, David Kinman, Sean Kinman, Kevin Keiser, Sister Mary Barbara Monica Keiser, Fredrick Keiser, Anthony Keiser, Geoffrey Keiser, Jessie Keiser, Nicholas Allen, and Stephani Allen; great-grandchildren, Joseph Montaldo, Nicholas Coffey, Mario Montaldo, Evan Montaldo, Sophia Llerena-Kinman, Xiven Sandstrom, Monica Keiser, Sebastian Keiser, Mathew Keiser, and Patrick Keiser; and nieces, Veronica Dillon and Maureen Healy. She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Allen; daughters, Barbara Allen Keiser and Monica Allen; granddaughter, Ellen Montaldo; and a sister, Marion Keene.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral will be held Thursday, January 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s cemetery.
