Eugene “Geno” J. Pardini, a resident of East Hampton for 50 years, died on May 22 at his son’s home in Springs, from complications of lung cancer. He was 74.
Born May 2, 1934, to Amelia (née Kolonoski) and Eugene Pardini in Flushing, Queens, he attended William Cullen Bryant High School, summering in Hither Hills until he was 17. In 1951, immediately following high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War on the aircraft carrier St. Gilbert Islands before his discharge in 1955.
After briefly living in Jackson Heights and working as a member of the Teamsters union driving a truck for a beverage company, he moved permanently to Montauk in the late 1950s and worked at Republic Aerospace. Subsequently, he worked in various positions including as a commercial fisherman, a bartender at the Inn at Napeague, a custodian at Amagansett School for 10 years, owner of Brent’s Store in Amagansett for two years, a houseman at Amagansett Fire Department for 13 years—from which he retired—and a ranger at the Sag Harbor Golf Club where he often played.
In addition to being a member of the American Legion, he was a dedicated member of the Amagansett Fire Department for more than 34 years, serving as captain of Company Number One and head chef. Survivors recalled last week that he was a great cook.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and was a big fan of the New York Giants football team.
He is survived by a son, Brian G. Pardini and his wife Karen of Springs; a brother, John Pardini of Commack; a sister, Patricia Kelly of New Jersey; a granddaughter, Mia Rose Pardini; an uncle, Joseph Pardini and his wife Helen; and 16 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Doris A. DiSunno of East Hampton.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held at the Amagansett Fire Department on May 25.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Amagansett Fire Department, P.O. Box 470, Amagansett, NY 11930 or American Legion Post 419, 15 Montauk Highway, East Hampton, NY 11937 would be appreciated by the family.
