Jean Adams Luban of East Hampton died on January 17 at her home. She was 76.
Born on August 22, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee, she moved to New York as a young woman after briefly serving as a flight attendant. She had a successful career as an executive with Blue Cross, Conde Nast, Jonathan Logan, Genesco and Hoechst Fibers.
She then pursued a career in real estate, including a position as vice president in charge of condominium sales in New York City with Ambrose Mar Elia and then in the Hamptons as a vice president with Allan Schneider, the Corcoran Group and Saunders & Associates. In addition, she served on the Eastern Suffolk Chapter of the Long Island Board of Realtors for seven years.
Survivors said she earned a position on any list of prominent women in business through her intelligence, integrity, honesty, beauty, many talents, and generosity and added that she will long be remembered by her many friends and associates. While she had no formal religion, they said, she believed in a higher being and goodness.
She is survived by her partner and friend of more than 30 years, John Kelly.
A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to any local animal shelter would be appreciated.
