Lifelong East Hampton resident Lewis T. Bennett died on September 1 at Southampton Hospital. He was 79.
Born October 23, 1928, in East Hampton, he was the son of Lily (née Wood) and Lewis H. Bennett. A graduate of East Hampton High School, and a U.S. Army veteran, he worked as manager of the IGA in East Hampton for 52 years.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Miller Bennett; a daughter, Brenda Scholl of East Hampton; two sons, Barry Bennett of East Hampton and Jason Bennett of Center Moriches; two brothers, Robert Bennett and Marvin Bennett, both of East Hampton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Tom Bennett, a sister, Ellen Miller, and one grandchild predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 5, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Luke’s Scholarship Fund, 18 James Lane, East Hampton, NY 11933 would be appreciated by the family.
