Mary Joan Crozier
Sag Harbor native and longtime East Hampton resident Mary Joan Crozier died on May 6 in California. She was 71.
Born on May 18, 1938, to William and Gertrude Crozier, the principal and music teacher, respectively, of Pierson High School, she was one of the first babies to benefit from the use of an incubator. From a very old Sag Harbor family, she was the valedictorian of the Pierson High School Class of 1956 and graduated with honors from New Rochelle College in 1960.
After college, she taught grade school until she was married in 1964. She loved and was devoted to her four children.
At age 26, she got her private pilot’s license. She travelled extensively through Europe and the United States.
In her life, family members said, she was conscientious, honest, and a devout Catholic.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Patricia Crum England of Oregon and Ann Marie Ore and Kathleen Crum, both of California; and a granddaughter, Hannah MacAulay Ore of California. She was predeceased by a son, James Crum.
A wake was held on May 6 at Sharer Nightingale Funeral Chapel in Sacramento, California. A graveside service was held on May 17 at Saint Andrew’s Cemetery in Sag Harbor.
