Richard B. Herrlin of East Hampton died on August 8 at the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, of a heart attack. The president of Schenck Fuels Inc., he was 75.
Born October 22, 1932, in New York City to Wilma (née Powell) and John S.O. Herrlin, he attended Trinity Prep School in New York and the University of Maine, and served in the U.S. Army.
An active member of the community, he was a member of the East Hampton Lions Club, the Springs Fire Department board of commissioners, a past president of the Visiting Nurse Association and past president of the East Hampton Chamber of Commerce. He also held positions with the town’s Board of Assessment Review and was a town councilman.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Schenck of East Hampton; two sons, Richard B. Herrlin Jr. and Rodney C. Herrlin, both of East Hampton; a daughter, Julie H. Landi of California; seven grandchildren; and one nephew. Two brothers, John Herrlin Jr. and Douglas P. Herrlin, predeceased him.
The family received visitors on August 12 at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. Funeral services were scheduled on August 13 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton; interment was to follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
