The Southampton Historical Museum is proud to announce that the restoration of the historic 1890 Nugent Carriage House, which is now the museum's thrift shop, is complete, thanks to funding from New York State Environmental Protection Plan and the Village of Southampton.

A grand opening of the Carriage House Thrift Shop will be held Thursday, August 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the grounds of Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane in Southampton.

The Carriage House was built by Dr. Nugent who lived in the Rogers Mansion, along with his family, between 1889 and 1899, to house his carriages with room for staff to live on the second floor.

Recent funding enabled the exterior, which was painted red during the 1950s, to return to its original 1890 color, which was white.

Upon completion of the project in June of this year, the Southampton History Museum created a thrift stop inside the Carriage House to raise funds for its free educational programs for seniors and children.

Visitors will be able to buy vintage items, artisan goods and hand-made jewelry. New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele will cut the ribbon on this new fundraising initiative and the thrift shop will be open between 4 and 6 p.m. for this special occasion. Refreshments will be served.

Regular open days and hours are Fridays and Saturdays through October, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations are welcome. For more information call 631 283-2494.
