A glass house in Sagaponack went on the market this week for $19 million. The 3,000-square-foot home sits on almost an acre and is one of seven oceanfront properties on Potato Road off Daniels Lane. The sleek modern house was built back in 2003.
Mary Ann Cinelli, the broker from Brown Harris Stevens who has the listing, notes that the oceanside pool, which sits right at the edge of the dunes, could not be built under current zoning laws. Upon aerial inspection it is, in fact, one of the closest pools to the ocean—if not the closest—in Sagaponack.
That might be something to brag about. After all, relaxing in a personally controlled body of water while looking out onto the massive and uncontrolled Atlantic could be the height of luxury.
According to Southampton Town records, the land is valued at just less than $7 million, so the glass house is certainly not priced for teardown. In 2012, two other oceanfront homes on Potato Road were sold, each on roughly one acre of land: a 3,000-square-foot house for $9.4 million and a $6.65 million house that was bought by the owner of the adjacent property and torn down.
In that context, the $19 million asking price might seem high to some.
