The Mainstay, the longest-running bed-and-breakfast in Southampton Village, was recently sold to a hospitality company after three years on the market.
Located at the corner of Hill Street and Bishops Lane, the inn is 4,400 square feet with nine bedrooms, seven bathrooms, three wood-burning fireplaces and a butler’s pantry.
The oldest parts of the structure are close to 200 years old and were host to Southampton’s first general store and post office, according to Gail Toma, the Corcoran agent who made the sale. It was later expanded to become a single-family home with a small real estate office attached. Now, the original parts of the structure are the bed-and-breakfast’s kitchen.
The property is a shy acre with a 20-foot-by-40-foot saltwater pool and a half-acre of perennial gardens among outdoor dining areas.
The Mainstay was listed for $1.85 million. The seller, Elizabeth Main, owned the bed-and-breakfast since 1992.
