Lifesavers

On behalf of the entire Federico family, I write this letter with great gratitude to all of those who came out on June 10 and participated in our annual Jim Federico Blood Drive. This year’s event was our best turnout yet. We collected a whopping 187 pints of blood, breaking our previous best by 63 pints.

I cannot express the gratitude we have to all the blood donors, as well as the local businesses and friends who generously donated food and door prizes.

A blood donation is a process that takes about an hour: signing in, getting a checkup to verify you can donate, waiting for a technician with an open machine, sitting through the timely process of the withdrawal, then sitting for some nourishment and rest before you are on your way home. But knowing your generosity may one day be the savior to a stranger’s life is an amazing thing. It was wonderful seeing that volume of attendees and sharing some memories with friends and strangers alike.

So, if I may, the following thanks are a must, because this little town has some very big people out there who make you realize how special of a place Sag Harbor truly is.

Thanks to The Cove Deli, Cromer’s Market, Goldberg’s Bagels, Cathy Capazolla, Cheryl Rozzi, Lynn Piloti, Kathy Stapon, and Ramona Kuroski for their amazing food donations.

Thanks to Il Capuccino, Scarlett Rose Salon, Henry Persan & Sons Ace Hardware, Serene Green, North Sea Hardware, and Hampton Motor Sports for their generosity for providing some amazing door prizes.

To Susan and her team from the New York Blood Center, for an amazing crew that came in two shifts and truly kept things pumping along.

To WLNG, for always helping to spread the good word.

Lastly, a big thank you to the Sag Harbor Ambulance and the Sag Harbor Fire Department for hosting yet another blood drive event and their help with anything and everything. Their next blood drive is scheduled for October 7.

Hoping to see you again next year.

Paul Federico
